One of the first works by Paul Casberg as an illustrator of literary works was the designing of the cover and illustrating the text content of the debut poetry collection by a German poet, writer and anarchist Erich Mühsam "The Desert". The plot of his most poems is a free life of a vagabond, tavern habitué. It is a protest of a declassed bourgeois against the "decent society" who condemns bourgeois life and morals, but does not go beyond vague revolutionary slogans.
